Daily Market Highlights_Feb 03 2020

Both bourses edged lower when the nCov outbreak continued to weigh on investors. After the opening bell, the market quickly crashed by more than 4% when panic selloffs sent most of the big-cap to lower limit. However, the local sentiment was improved as the bargain hunting kicked in and pared the losses. The recovery was mainly fuelled by key sectors namely banking, material and pharmaceuticals. BID, CTG, and VPB set flare for the recovery although others fellows banks TCB, MBB, ACB and LPB closed in red. Steel makers HPG, HSG advanced on foreign interest and positive Q4 earnings. Pharmaceutical firms persisted on the winning streak when the fears on Coronavirus kept looming. Oil& gas, on the other hand, was hit hard due to worries on global growth outlook. SAB plunged ahead of the Decree 100 Foreign investor net bough USD 2.5mn, topped by VHM, VNM and E1VFVN30. Traded liquidity surged to USD 170mn level

VN-Index down 0.9% to 928.1 pts and HNX-Index down 1% to 101.3 pts.

Both main indexes corrected today as selling pressure emerged. MWG was sold strongly at the beginning of the session as today 2.3mn ESOP shares issued in 2017 were unlocked, while later next week there will be another 3.2mn shares from 2018 ESOP were unlocked. However, the stock narrow down the loss at the closing and only declined 0.5%. Other retailers were mixed as FRT slumped while PNJ rose. Consumer staples SAB and MSN increased, while VNM stayed unchanged. Banks VCB, BID, ACB, HDB, EIB and MBB slide, CTG moved sideways while TCB an VPB gained. Brokers SSI reversed yesterday’s loss, while HCM and VCI ended in red. Real estate VHM, VRE, NVL and DXG gained, while VIC slightly dropped. Foreign investors net bought USD 2.8mn, notably that MSN was top buying ticker with USD 1.8mn. Liquidity rose to USD 243mn, partly thanks to the put-through transaction of 59mn shares VSH at USD 53mn. Previously, REE also registered to buy 60mn shares of VSH to increase ownership to 51%.
